....was this morning. Every year I watch and in particular since completing it in 2003 I feel a certain warmth and buzz and envy of those on the streets. I have vowed to take part in it again before i am forty..that gives me nine years.. I have four more years of rejections before I am guaranteed a place so I should achieve my aim. Below are pics of my attempt first time round..what a day and what an atmosphere. It is a killer, no doubt but boy is it so so so worth it. I would hope to do better next time, I have lost a lot of the post baby chunk you can see in my pic below (disguised by my Minnie mouse costume :-)) but serious training would be needed first, not a bad thing though as is the only thing that would make me give up smoking again... that or being pregnant and the latter would be a definite no no!!! Last time I raised alot of money for scope but this time I would raise money for more local charities which have had a huge impact on Mikey's life, just a little way of giving something back for the support they provide. That is why I need a ballot place.. but one years rejection and four to go, but maybe this years application will be a lucky one and maybe not...
Here's a couple of pics...excuse the white flash marks... all proudly arranged in a posh frame so photos of photos ;-)
Day 109

I didn't know that!! Congratulations (6 years late!!)
ReplyDeletehope you get a ballot place this year ... my hubby ran it in 2002 for National Society for Epilepsy (he didnt get a ballot place but ran as part of their team) .... he keeps trying to get a place again but has missed a couple of years applications - he might try again in the morning - it is the training that puts him off. Prior to the marathon he was a smoker & it served its purpose in making him stop. What time did you do it in? He did it in 3hr 53min & I have always said I'd love to do it for SKIUK but my target time would be more like 6hr!!!

Thanks val and esther...go for it!! It really is amazing... your target time is closer to mine.. your OH did fantastic there! For me its not getting a great time, though would be hoping for five hours tops, its about the whole experince and raising some money. I would like to raise money for Mikeys Hospice. Have just been on the marathon site to try and get my entry in but guess everyone is so will try later... tell hubby to do so too..and you! :-) Cannot reccomend it enough! Sure enough when I had completed it I said never again but it seems we have all said that! :-) When I ran for SCOPE it was a charity place and I had to raise £2500, which I managed along with a bit more but need a ballot place as the fundraising was alot of pressure. The most of it was raised through a charity ball, but gotta be sensible and time manage training and Mikeys needs so less time for fundraising. Anyway, go for it!! Lori. xx
